As of July 1, 2014, the Ontario Ministry of Labour introduced new occupational health and safety awareness training. This is mandatory training for all workers in Ontario and their supervisors.

A worker is defined as a person who performs work or supplies services for monetary compensation and a supervisor is defined as a person who has authority or charge over the worker.

For curling clubs/centres, this means all paid staff members must complete the training -- ice teams, bar staff, administrative staff, supervisors --  as well as the person charged with supervising their work, etc.
The requirement to complete the training is regardless of the workplace size or sector. Information on the training may be found at: www.labour.gov.on.ca/english/hs/training/workers.php
The training is available online or by workbook and takes about an hour to complete  A certificate is printed at the conclusion of the training.

We strongly encourage volunteers who perform similar work as paid workers complete the training.
