The second event of the series for the Colts Curling in the Ottawa area is in the books. It was another exciting day. The event was limited to 8 teams this time to make sure we could squeeze in a full day of curling and still make it to the Roar.
The field was comprised of teams from North Grenville Curling Club, Navy Curling Club, Winchester Curling Club and Metcalfe Curling Club.
Metcalfe Curling Club was a gracious host thanks to the tremendous support of Allen and Margarita Crawford who also played in the event. The ice was in fantastic shape (Thanks Denn-Ice) and the lunch was perfect.
The highlight of the day was an 8-ender scored by the Navy Club’s Team Winchester comprised of Marianne Winchester, Nathan Bailey, Chris Chow and Katie Kelly. It was a pressure-filled draw shot on the last rock by Nathan Bailey that was swept hard by Chris Chow and Katie Kelly to just catch a piece of the rings. In hind-sight it was very Kevin Koe of them Congratulations. (I won’t say who the team on the other side of that 8-ender was, but I now know how it feels to have an 8-ender scored against me!!)
Team Briggs (Glen Briggs, Larry, Melisse and Donna McMillan) from the Winchester Curling Club took the B-Side finals with a convincing win over the team from Navy. I don’t think they were too disappointed…not many curlers can say they’ve scored an 8-ender!
The A-Side went to Team Doucette (Carl Doucette, Terry Lauzon, Mark Payment and Mark Lewars) from the North Grenville Curling Club against Team Douma (Andrew Douma, Randy Douma, Trevor Hilliker and Sachin Misra and spare Abe Douma). Team Douma is anxiously awaiting the rematch!!
